Dear Tim, His Steps Ministries, and Faith Church,

It is with a grateful heart that I send this letter to you. God has restored hope and shown himself strong on behalf of our family through the work that God done through you, your church and your ministry.

Tim and and Sam as he prepares to leave.

The hopelessness and helplessness that we had experienced over the past 5 years had been a difficult time of trial. At the time, it was impossible to see anything good about what was happening in our family, and especially in our son, Samuel. Through God’s grace, He has seen fit to encourage His people by showing the power of His Word through the life of Samuel these past 6 months at His Steps. While still at home, we could see that God was doing a work in his heart, convicting him, and giving him a desire to follow Christ, but we were not equipped to deal with the repercussions of the addictions that were controlling him, and were clueless how to handle it or to help him. God knew our need, and in His sovereignty, He directed us to His Steps Ministries this past December.  As a family, we prayed and were all very confident in this direction for Samuel. God provided every detail, and within a week, he was 18 hours from home, living in a ministry house with people he’d never met. Ho

wever, we knew he was in God’s hands and right where he needed to be.

Each weekend I spoke with him on the phone. His enthusiasm for the things of God often brought tears to my eyes, and prayers of gratefulness with each conversation. His love for God, his commitment to His Word, and his spiritual growth were evident. God was molding him and changing him, not externally, but from the heart.   The devastating experiences of addiction and seeing God break the bondage of sin, are now a tool in the hands of our sovereign God, and are being used to bring glory to Him. Samuel is excited about the possibilities and open doors for ministry to other young men who are bound in sin and addiction. Through God’s grace, experiencing the transforming power of the Word, and learning about repentance and deliverance, he has a knowledge and skill with which to share with others in need.  He had only been home 3 days, and had already had a father call him to meet with and mentor his son concerning an addiction problem. He also has met with an old “drug” friend to share the gospel, and his testimony. He has been asked by 3 different churches so far to share his testimony. Samuel will be meeting weekly with an elder from the church in which he grew up, and has already begun to re-establish friendships with Christian young adults, and repair relationships that were broken over the years.  He’s also taken responsibility for the financial aspects of his past, making arrangements for payback of debts. He has enrolled in the final 2 classes to finish his degree in Business Administration, with minors in Management and Marketing, and will graduate in 3 months. He is humbly restoring those things that he has broken in our family, relationships and monetary items, of his own initiative. For the first time I can say that “the steps of my son are ordered by the Lord, and he delights in His way

God has used this extended trial to prove His love, His answers to prayer; but in my life, He continues to use this trial to teach me that He can be trusted to work His will and bring victory out of hopelessness. He is worthy of honor, praise, and my trust. Thank you for being a willing tool in God’s hands. I look forward to seeing His work continue here in Wichita Kansas because of your faithfulness in Woodstock Georgia. I don’t know what He has planned, but I know I can trust Him through it. Thank you for your continued prayers for Samuel as he pursues the path of righteousness in these all too familiar settings.

God bless you.

Teresa Chaney  (Samuel Chaney’s mom)

He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.
Psalm 40:2-3
